Snowhotel Kirkenes
Kirkenes, Norway
Rebuilt every winter in Norway's far northeast, with huskies, reindeer and warm cabins alongside.
Kirkenes sits in Norway's far northeast, near the Russian border and well above the Arctic Circle. The snow hotel here is rebuilt each winter and holds its interior a few degrees below freezing regardless of what the weather outside is doing.
Rooms are carved and sculpted, with beds set on ice blocks and insulated sleeping systems supplied rather than optional. Guests change and store luggage in a heated service building a short walk away.
The site also keeps a husky kennel and a reindeer enclosure, and the long winter darkness makes it a reasonable place to watch for the aurora. Warm cabins run alongside the ice rooms, for anyone who wants one night on ice and the next on a radiator.
